Hospital project to provide 160 local jobs at its peak of construction.

WATPAC Limited has secured the $74 million contract to deliver the Roma Hospital redevelopment main works project for Queensland Health.

The new hospital is set to be located adjacent to the existing building, consisting of a three-level building with a gross floor area of 12,550 square metres, providing 24 beds with departments including emergency, allied health, medical imaging, inpatient wards, pathology, medical records and central sterilising.

Additional facilities to be delivered include theatres, a mortuary, reception, administration areas, staff lounge, training rooms, laundry, kitchen, a café and plant rooms.

With site works expected to commence in late September, Watpac Construction state manager Drew Brockhurst said the team looked forward to delivering this important project for the region.

"Our extensive experience in delivering health projects ensures the project team understand the complex requirements of hospital infrastructure, in addition to meeting specific health regulations,” Mr Brockhurst said.

With the workforce to reach 160 people at peak construction, Mr Brockhurst said Watpac was committed to providing opportunities for local businesses and trades.

"As always, we will look to engage with the local business community and, where possible, create opportunities to deliver this important piece of health infrastructure.”

The redevelopment is anticipated to be completed in late 2020 and is one of numerous projects Watpac is delivering in Queensland, including the North Queensland Stadium in Townsville, the Military Vehicle Centre of Excellence in Ipswich, and the Herston Quarter Redevelopment - a major health project in Brisbane.

Watpac managing director Martin Monro welcomed the new project to the their workbook.

"We will be delivering an exceptional new hospital not only for Roma but the wider region,” he said.
