MARANOA Regional Council has signed a contract to be a container refund point and will run information sessions to ensure residents receive refunds.

The Container Refund Scheme is set to start in the coming weeks with two drop-off points, one in Roma and the other in Mitchell, and residents will need to register online to receive their unique client number to be able to participate in the scheme.

Portfolio chair for waste Councillor Geoff McMullen said the council was very excited to be able to offer this program to Maranoa residents.

"Within the next 10 days a representative from Container for Change will be coming to the Maranoa to train our staff,” he said.

"Council's plan is for residents to have a point of delivery to enable them to drop off their containers in two weeks.

"We would like to remind residents that they need to register and receive their unique client number on the Container Refund Scheme website to be able to receive the refund.

"Council is only a Container Refund Point and will not distribute refunds. Funds will be electronically transferred.”

Cr McMullen encouraged residents to come and gain a greater understanding of how the new scheme

works.

Two sessions will be held at Community Hub, Roma, on Thursday, December 13, from 9-11am and 5.30-6.30pm.

"Ensure you bring your bank details and an email address you can access on the day and, if you are able, bring along your own device as there will be a limited number of computers available,” he said.

"Council staff and members from the Department of State Development will be on hand to assist you in

becoming part of the scheme.”

Further sessions are planned for other Maranoa towns and dates will be advised in the coming weeks.
