The owners of the storied and iconic Muckadilla pub have listed the property for sale, and it could be yours for a cool $2m.
Situated 40km out of Roma in the Maranao region, the pub is a place for locals and travellers alike.
Marty and Christy Coomber bought the property in 2019 after it was devastated by a fire and completely rebuilt it, reopening it in late 2021.
While they never fancied themselves publicans, the couple has spent the past two years running the pub and accommodation around it, solidifying the Mucka Pub as the beating heart of the rural Queensland town of Muckadilla.
“We wanted to make sure our community didn’t die, because that’s what happens to towns without a pub,” Mrs Coomber said.
They initially set out to just give the locals a watering hole, but ultimately decided that if they were going to rebuild the pub, they would do it right.
The pub now features a large bar, beer garden, a pool, powered and unpowered campsites, eight cabins and an impressive owners residence.
Locals speak highly of the food and the pub has also become a popular venue for music in the region.
It has won many awards, including a 2023 Queensland Hotels Association major award.
Mrs Coomber said they “weren’t prepared for how popular it would be”.
The pub has a minimum of six employees working every day because of how busy it has become, truly making it the heart of Muckadilla, a town of 58 people at the last census.
Mrs Coomber said the couple were “very proud” of what the pub has become, and that the experience has “been wonderful.”
“It’s really such a great little family here,” she said.
Mrs Coomber said she was also very proud of their staff, with many from diverse backgrounds and who all work incredibly hard to keep the running.
“We have a cook who will jump on the lawnmower if its quiet,” she said.
However, the Coombers have decided it’s time to go back to doing what they know: farming. With three working farms in the region, the couple has enough on their plate, but are patiently waiting for the right buyer to put an offer in for the pub.
“In an ideal world if a mum and dad and adult kids were able to come in and throw fresh energy into the place that would be amazing,” Mrs Coomber said.
She said the town of Muckadilla has a “beautiful spirit,” and they were ready to embrace the new publican.
