"We were called to the scene of the bush fire just after 4pm,” a Fire and Rescue spokesperson said.

"We are still working to put it out and we are trying to make sure there is no smoke so we don't get any subsequent alarms.

"It only took us five or ten minutes to extinguish the main fire itself, but we need to make sure all of the coals and the ashes are extinguished so we don't get a reignition - especially so close to town.

"We don't want people to be alarmed.”

The spokesperson said police had been on the scene, with the cause of the blaze unknown.

Police investigations are continuing.
