Cricket: The Wanderers cricket side will be bringing their wealth of knowledge to Roma next Thursday.

The visit is part of the team's annual tour of rural Queensland, with an emphasis on promoting cricket through playing matches against local sides and coaching juniors.

Queensland Cricket regional development manager John Butterworth will also be visiting Roma in conjunction with this tour and will be attending assemblies at local schools.

There will be a pre-season sign-on and coaching clinic with various activities set up for all ages and levels on Thursday, August 16 from 4pm at Gallas Fox Park.

Following the sign-on, there will be a T20 Wanderers versus Roma game starting at 5pm.

A delicious barbecue dinner will be available with Maranoa Beef steak and sausages.

Following the cricket match, a signed Queensland Bulls Sheffield Shield bat will be auctioned off by Geoff Maslen to raise money for the Roma and District Cricket Association.

Everyone is encouraged to come along and enjoy a great evening of cricket.

Roma and District Cricket Association president Scott Hilton said the Wanderers tour was a great opportunity for the club.

"It is a good experience for the cricketers to play against quality opposition who have formal coaching in Brisbane,” Hilton said.

"Also having John Butterworth running cricket clinics at the schools will hopefully encourage more young kids in cricket. If we have more junior numbers it is a flow-on effect into senior grades,” he said.

Hilton hopes the auction from the signed bat will raise funds to continue supplying equipment for the club.

"Queensland Cricket gave us a really good hand out last year and we want to continue to build that for the juniors,” he said.
