COUNCIL WRAP: grants awarded, purchases halted, and more

Maranoa community groups are sharing in $50,000 worth of council grants for local projects, sports, and future events, while other purchases are being suspended.

THIRTEEN Maranoa clubs are sharing in just over $50,000 worth of community grants, funding activities for local residents across the region.

Maranoa Regional Council has funded the grants in partnership with energy company Senex, to support not-for-profit groups which are looking to run a variety of community activities over the coming months.

The following groups have received a cut of the total $50,014 funding pool:

• Noonga Community Association

• Corona Lodge No 318

• Yuleba Bowls Club

• All Saints Debutante Ball Committee

• Roma Life Christian Church

• Visit Roma Inc

• Injune Rodeo Association

• Roma Bush Gardens

• Roma Historical Precincts

• Surat Pony Club

• Roma Campdraft Association

• Wallumilla P & C Association

• Roma Touch Association

 

In other Council news, have opted not to purchase 10 new vehicles to assist with local operations, opting to hold off any buying until after the budget is handed down.

Maranoa Regional Council will hold the funding to buy nine single-cab utilities and a front-end loader, which were intended to replace current council vehicles in need of disposal.

However the council did vote to purchase an excavator for local works at a cost of $390,500.

 

Access to government agencies such as Centrelink will remain in Surat, following the council's decision to accept an extension of the National Agents and Access Points Program contract.

The contract covers services currently spread across Surat Library and the Cobb and Co Changing Station, including the Department of Human Services, plus library and cultural services.
