Call to graziers: Claim your free tonne of livestock feed

Rapid Relief Team is setting out to St George and Roma soon, bringing free stock feed and more for local farmers but the deadline to register is near.

FROM droughts to flooding rains, graziers of the southwest have been through it all, and one group is sending a convoy of assistance for them, carrying hundreds of tonnes of stock feed.

Ahead of their arrival in Roma and St George next month, Rapid Relief Team Australia is putting out one final call for locals to sign up for their share of the 400-tonne donation.

Each grazier from the Balonne or Maranoa shire can put their name down for a 1-tonne bulk bag of livestock pellets, to be collected on April 2 and 3 respectively, however registration must be completed by March 19 for them to be eligible.

Despite recent rains reviving much of the region, the drought relief convoy will still go ahead because the RRT knows is still not yet over.

"We know how devastating the drought has been and continues to be for our regional communities - this is one way we can support them," RRT chairman Ron Arkcoll said.

"Long after the cameras have gone and the attention is elsewhere, our regional communities still need support to get through this devastating drought.

"That's why we're heading on a road trip to hand out fodder - this is all part of the Rapid Relief Team's Farmers Community Connect initiative.

"It's also an opportunity to sit down for a coffee and a bite to eat with each other, and have a chat if people are in need of a listening ear."

As well as the fodder drop, the Rapid Relief Team is bringing along support services including veterinarians, rural financial counsellors, and mental health counsellors under their Farmers' Community Connect initiative.

"It's not just a day to come and pick up the fodder, it's really a feel-good day for the local community and farmers to connect together," Rapid Relief Team operations manager Lester Sharples said.

"Our team will also be cooking up food and making coffee; it is really a day to pull together as a community, people can tell us their story and have someone listen to them - someone who understands, is compassionate, and is passionate about those doing it tough."

Local graziers can register online HERE to receive their fodder allocation.

The RRT will be at the St George Showgrounds on Thursday, April 2, from 7.30am-11am.

In Roma, they will be at Bassett Park on Friday, April 3, from 7.30am-11am.
