NOTICEABLE new safety measures are coming to Woolworths Roma, in a bid to stop the spread of coronavirus.
The supermarket chain is installing plexiglass screens on every manned checkout in Australia over the coming weeks.
Two stores in Sydney have already had their check-outs fitted with the screens, and the rollout will make its way to Roma, Woolworths managing director Claire Peters said.
“Our stores remain open and we will continue to stand by the Australian community through this health crisis,” she said.
“As our team members continue providing for the community, we will do everything necessary to uphold public health and safety in our stores.
“We know it’s not always easy to maintain social distancing at our check-outs, so we’ve started installing plexiglass screens as an additional safeguard for our team members and customers.
“We thank our customers for their understanding as we work through these challenging times together.”
Woolworths also confirmed security guards will be brought in to every store within days, if they haven’t arrived already; 950 stores nationwide currently have a security presence.
It follows initial social distancing rules put in to place at the supermarket including posters with tips to help shoppers minimise contact, advice to use trolleys as a distancing guide, and floor markings at check-outs.
