App set to help people living with a disability

App to help NDIS recipients in Charleville and surrounding areas.

THE Charleville Western Areas Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Health has been successful in its bid to develop a web-based audio-visual app to help people living with a disability in southwest Queensland.

CWAATSICH chief executive Sheryl Lawton welcomed news of the National Disability Insurance Agency - Information, Linkages and Capacity Remote Grant and the investment of $750,000 over two years towards the project.

"I am excited about the opportunity to utilise modern technology and implement place based solutions to meet the needs of people living with a disability in southwest Queensland," Ms Lawton said.

The project is focused on creating connections between people with disabilities, their communities and local service providers through the development of an NDIS user-friendly, culturally appropriate animation audio-visual web-based app.

The app seeks to optimise the social and economic independence and full participation of people living with a disability, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in southwest Queensland.

The project will also include three project committees: Consumer and key stakeholder committee; technical advisory committee; and project governance committee.
