Woman critical after vehicle and motorbike crash on Old Bridge Rockhampton

A Berserker woman was taken to Rockhampton Hospital with critical head injuries after a crash on the Old Bridge, Rockhampton, on Tuesday. UPDATES.

A woman remains in hospital three days after suffering critical injuries in a crash on the Old Bridge in Rockhampton on Tuesday evening.

Emergency crews were called to the Fitzroy River Bridge at 5.49pm to reports of a moped involved in a crash.

A spokeswoman for Queensland Police Service said it was understood the rider, a 61-year-old Berserker woman, was travelling north on the bridge before losing control.

She was taken to Rockhampton Hospital in a critical condition with significant head injuries.

It’s understood the woman was the holder of a foreign driver’s licence.

On Friday morning the woman remained in hospital where it was understood she was in a stable condition.

The Fitzroy Bridge was closed to traffic for many hours on Tuesday night as the Forensic Crash Unit was on scene investigating the incident.

The bridge was open again to traffic on Wednesday morning.

The Forensic Crash Unit is continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash and are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage from the area around the time of the crash to come forward.

Periodic delays have already been experienced on the Fitzroy River Bridge this week amid single lane closures for road repairs.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads advises single lane closures can still be expected until August 4 between 7pm to 5am and then on August 12 between 11am to 6pm for northbound lanes only and on August 13 between 6am to 6pm for southbound lanes.
