A teenager has been given bail “with some caution” after he allegedly sent a number of “abusive” messages to his ex-partner on Instagram threatening to distribute intimate images of her.

Police allege the teenager he went to his ex-partner’s house and tried to pick a fight with a family member at a Central Queensland property.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Sarah Rowe objected to his bail in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court on July 3, telling the court his alleged offending was “quite serious” and “concerning” in nature.

He was charged with a number of offences including using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence, threatening to distribute intimate images (domestic violence offence), threatening violence (domestic violence offence), common assault, public nuisance and obstructing police.

The charges came as a result of an alleged incident between him and his former partner in Central Queensland the night beforehand.

His lawyer Ashley Reynolds said her client had been under “distress” in recent times after the relationship with his ex-partner had broken down.

Ms Reynolds said he had allegedly also received messages from his ex-partner saying she was “done being a mother” and she “just wants to go out and party”.

She said if her client was not granted bail he was at risk of spending too much time in custody.

Ms Reynolds told the court her client had a limited criminal history and was reporting as required for an unrelated probation order.

She said he was willing to abide by “stringent” bail conditions including a curfew and wearing an ankle monitor.

Sergeant Rowe said the teenager’s current probation order, while unrelated to the alleged incident, was for similar alleged offending against the same people.

Sergeant Rowe said he “expressed his desire” to have police shoot him as he was being removed from a police vehicle.

Magistrate Grace Kahlert said her decision to grant him bail came with “some caution” and gave him strict conditions including wearing an ankle monitor, abiding by a curfew and not contacting or approaching the victim.

His matters are expected to be mentioned in court again on July 24.
