Six members of runners-up The Cathedral College named in Confraternity Carnival Girls Merit Team

A ‘powerful runner’ who won two player of the match awards is among a big group of Central Queensland representatives who made the Confraternity Carnival merit teams. Check out who they are.

The Central Queensland stars of 2024 Confraternity Carnival.

The Cathedral College dominated selection in the 2024 Confraternity Honorary Girls Merit Team.

Six players from the Rockhampton team that finished runners-up at the Queensland Independent Secondary Schools Rugby League Carnival were recognised for their performances in Townsville.

Manaia Faiumu Malone, Salome Mann, Josie Wogand, Maycee Brown, Zoe Robson and Rhiannah Brown were named in the top 17.

They were joined by Stevie-Lee Dixson, from Rockhampton’s Emmaus College.

The Cathedral College girls team was awarded the Referees' Team Fair Play Award at the 2024 Confraternity Carnival.

The Central Queensland trio of Harrison Hill and Simon Green (St Brendan’s College) and Zac Bateman (The Cathedral College) played their way into the boys merit team.

The TCC girls were denied back-to-back titles by St Patrick’s College Mackay, who reversed the outcome of last year’s grand final with a gritty 8-4 win.

While they did not get to hoist the Shield, TCC did receive the Referees’ Team Fair Play Award.

St Ursula’s College, Yeppoon, were beaten 20-4 by St Margaret Mary’s College, Townsville, in the second-tier Confraternity Trophy.

St Ursula’s Tanyia Wheller took home the Spirit of the Carnival Award.

Girls

Manaia Faiumu Malone (The Cathedral College)

Fantastic ball-playing fullback who has skills to break the game wide open. Safe under the high ball, with a great kick return.

Rhiannah Brown (The Cathedral College)

Speedy winger who can score from anywhere. She also rolls her sleeves up and does the tough carries for her team.

Maycee Brown (The Cathedral College)

Strong ball-running half who is great in defence and creates space well for her teammates.

Salome Mann (The Cathedral College)

A front rower whose powerhouse running style is hard for any opposition to contain. Great with the ball in hand, her defence is equally as impressive.

Stevie-Lee Dixson (Emmaus College)

Hard-working forward who inspires her teammates to always put in 110 per cent. A powerful runner, she makes it hard for the opposition to get her to the ground. She won two Player of the Match awards for Emmaus at Confro and her merit team selection caps an incredible year in which she starred for Norths in the local league and the CQ Capras under-17s in the statewide competition.

Josie Wogand (The Cathedral College)

A skilful hooker with a huge engine and a great work ethic. Rock solid in defence, her running game is also very strong.

Zoe Robson (The Cathedral College)

A gifted athlete who can play in the backs or the forwards. Had an outstanding year, selected in the Queensland schoolgirls team and representing Queensland Country under-17s. An elusive and speedy ball runner, she can score tries from anywhere. Also a standout performer for the CQ Capras under-17s.

Harrison Hill (St Brendan’s College)

A hard worker on the field and reliable competitor who will not stop until the final whistle. Epitomises what St Brendan’s is all about; gives everything for the jersey and never lies down.

Simon Green (St Brendan’s College)

A complete package on and off the field. Aggressive, highly skilful, fast and agile, he also has the game sense which will guarantee he climbs the ranks rapidly. Recently signed with the Manly Sea Eagles who, after seeing him at a recent training stint at Brookvale, were quick to lock down the champion lock.

The Cathedral College rugby league player Zac Bateman.

Zac Bateman (The Cathedral College)

A fearless competitor who loves the game and thrives on the challenge. A tough runner of the football, he is a strong and physical defender. Was a standout for TCC at Confraternity, earning three Player of the Match awards. The North Queensland Cowboys signed lock, is also a reliable kicker. Represented Queensland Country under-17s this year.
