The Central Queensland Seamers are set for a strong showing at the Bulls Masters Under-16 Youth Cup, according to coach Murray Harch.
They are one of eight regional teams contesting the four-day carnival starting in Cairns on Monday.
Central Queensland will play the Wide Bay Flames, North Queensland Monsoons and the SEQ Stormers on the first three days before crossover games on the fourth.
Harch is confident his outfit will be right in the mix, with plenty of talent in the line-up.
“I think we’ve got the team to win all three games and finish top of the pool but names on paper mean nothing, it’s what they do out on the field as a team that counts,” he said.
“We’re a very strong all-round unit. We bat pretty much down to 10 and bowling-wise, I can throw the ball to any of those 12 and they’ll be able to do the job.”
Harch said skipper John Mulville would be up for a big carnival, while the in-form Henry Lau was sure to be racking up the runs and in-swing bowler Isaac Evers claiming plenty of scalps.
This is Harch’s first time coaching the team, and it’s made even more special given his eldest son Jonty is in the line-up.
“It shows his commitment to the sport and how much he has improved from when he first started playing Milo In2Cricket at age four,” the proud dad said.
“He loves cricket… he tries his heart out all the time and is always thinking of the team he is playing for.”
Harch’s main message to Jonty and his teammates next week will be to enjoy the game and not to put too much pressure on themselves.
“I believe this group plays their best cricket when they are just having fun doing it,” he said.
