Women’s cricket in the region is “going great guns”.
That’s the take from Richie Pershouse who coached Central Queensland in the inaugural open women’s division at last month’s North Queensland Zone Championships.
The team finished third after recording one win and two losses at the tournament in Mackay.
Four players - Abbey Harvey, Lila Atkinson, Mahli Rea and Phoebe Murphy - earned a place in the North Queensland team, with Harvey and Rea going on to secure Queensland Country selection.
Pershouse said it was great to see the growth of women’s cricket and the participation rate in the Rockhampton Cricket competition alone was amazing, with eight teams involved.
Rockhampton Brothers Blue and Frenchville are sitting one and two on the ladder, both having scored five wins from their six fixtures so far.
The Gracemere Bullettes and Capricorn Coast are sitting third and fourth respectively.
With the competition in recess for the Christmas/New Year period, we’ve put together a list of the leading batters and bowlers to date.
Actions returns on January 31 with the seventh and final round.
