Central Queensland Capras under-19s boys coach Peter Rogers has named his playing group for the 2025 season, saying he has assembled a “hard-working squad with a great attitude”.

He finalised the 36-strong outfit after their second trial game in which they piled on the points against the Wide Bay Bulls in Gladstone on Saturday.

The Capras ran in 52 unanswered points and Rogers said while it wasn’t the real test he was looking for heading into the Mal Meninga Cup season opener this weekend, there were still some positive takeaways.

“Our goal was to keep the opposition to zero and we did that, and we showed plenty of defensive intent,” he said.

Front rower Jake Oberhardt produced another starring role, his second in as many weeks after impressing in the first trial against the Mackay Cutters.

Fullback Banjo Walker and second rower Cruz Beazley also had big games.

Rogers is now working on his starting line-up for the Round 1 clash against the Townsville Blackhawks.

The Capras four underage teams were to travel to Townsville for their opening games but the torrential rain up north forced a change of venue.

It is understood plans are being made for the games to be played at Yeppoon.

Rogers said his players were keen to get their season off to a strong start

“We need to hold the footy, make minimal mistakes and defend aggressively,” he said.
