Smart Hub a godsend for Rocky mother

MEGAN Gomez is adamant that without the support of the Rockhampton Regional Council's Smart Hub program, she would never have got her business venture off the ground.

She is only one month in to life at the Smart Hub and is blown away by the positive environment created in the city centre.

"It has been fantastic. To have my own working environment where I am around other positive, motivated people has been great,” Megan said.

"It is never easy starting up and the council has been amazing.

"It is expensive to set something like this up and I would not have been able to afford it or justify the outlay.

"For anyone who has an idea that they have been pondering for a while, give it a go, this is the perfect place to begin.”

Megan's business, Rural Health Connect, is still another month away from its launch, but she is eager to get it under way.

"My business is a social enterprise which uses online video conferencing technology to deliver mental health services primarily to people in rural areas,” she explained.

"People who are either isolated by their distance or their life circumstances.

"It is for anyone who is finding it difficult to access mental health services, they might live in a small town and don't want to be seen accessing help or have none in their area.

"There is certainly a lot of need out there.”

She is only one month in to what she hopes will be a successful venture and says if she is still going in 12 months she will have done a job.
