Shawn Thompson was a “goofball” who cherished his family and treasured his friends.
He loved video games, Pokemon and uploading videos to his YouTube channel.
He will forever be remembered as that charismatic teenager following his sudden death on November 13.
Shawn was just 14 years old.
He is believed to have died from a stroke after suffering meningitis.
Shawn was the son of Leslie Spencer and Kira Thompson, and had four younger siblings - Lenaye, Ella, Leslie Jr and Jax.
He is described in his funeral notice as “a friend to many”.
A gofundme page has been set up for his family.
“Shawn was a goofball,” it reads.
“He loved his family. He was loved by all his family and friends, and was very popular in school.
“Shawn, you are so loved, and missed so much.”
It reveals that Shawn fell Ill and was taken to a Central Queensland hospital where he was found to have a bug in his blood.
He was discharged and sent home but fewer than 12 hours later he returned to the hospital.
“He was diagnosed with meningitis and admitted,” the gofundme page says.
“That same day he was admitted to ICU and they were unable to wake him.
“His parents were told he was having silent seizures.
“The next day we were told there was nothing more they could do, that his brain had swelled.”
The gofundme page goes on to say that later that day, Shawn was to be sent to Brisbane because his scans were “not adding up”.
“He was sent to Brisbane the next morning. Brisbane looked over the scans that the previous hospital had done and found that Shawn had suffered a stroke.
“Unfortunately, due to the hospital missing the signs and misdiagnosing and not acting fast enough, there was nothing that could be done.
“We are reaching out to the community for help during this difficult time as Shawn’s parents and siblings need all the support.”
The Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service was contacted for comment and sent this response.
“We cannot publicly disclose details of a patient’s care,” a spokesperson said.
“We extend our deepest sympathies and sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Shawn Thompson.”
Shawn’s funeral service will be held in the East Chapel at the Rockhampton Crematorium at 10am on Saturday, December 4.
