THEY'VE created an Empire and now developers Andrew Beaumont and Wayne Riddell have got the go-ahead for an exclusive riverfront residential complex in Rockhampton.
The regional council on Friday approved their Gallery Apartments, a high-end nine-storey development which consists of 68 riverfront residential apartments and a restaurant.
It is just blocks away from the Empire, their $65million luxury riverfront apartment hotel in Victoria Pde.
Mr Beaumont said he was hopeful construction of the Gallery Apartments would start mid to late 2015 and take about 16 months to complete.
Nine apartments are already on hold, despite the project not yet being formally presented to the market.
He said the development was designed to be sympathetic to the important adjoining cultural precinct.
"It will see owner-occupiers in a high-end residential complex, which has a significant landscaped element to Victoria Pde.
"The building will be set back to the end adjoining the art gallery to open up the view corridor to this important cultural space.
"We are really mindful of that streetscape surrounding the Pilbeam Theatre and the art gallery, and have engaged the same company who designed the ground floor landscaping at the Empire."
Levels 1 to 8 of the Gallery will be two-bedroom apartments with one large three-bedroom terrace apartment on Level 1, with a combination of two and three-bedroom apartments on Level 9. (A potential buyer has already earmarked two of these apartments, with a view to creating a $1million plus penthouse on the top floor.)
Mr Beaumont said he was thrilled with the take-up of apartments at the Empire and the way in which the community was patronising its three restaurants.
He said it was a prime example of what could be achieved on the city's riverfront.
"Full credit to the council for embracing Empire's outdoor dining space. This is a sign of what can be achieved with some vision, strong planning and passion for our great city."
