A traffic controller says the steel tomahawk and large fixed-blade hunting knife found under his passenger seat were for irregular bouts of farmhand work.

A traffic controller says the steel tomahawk and large fixed-blade hunting knife found under his passenger seat were for irregular bouts of farmhand work.

Police found the items when Shane James Taylor was intercepted for driving matters about 10pm on June 5.

When asked about which properties he worked at, Taylor said he didn’t know the names as he got a lift with a friend.

Taylor pleaded guilty on June 21 in Rockhampton Magistrates Court to one count of possessing a knife in a public place.

Defence lawyer Felicity Davis said Taylor worked on a casual basis as a traffic controller and did some casual farm work with a mate for cash from time to time.

Taylor was fined $300 and a conviction was not recorded.
