An alleged domestic violence offender has a broken collarbone after the police vehicle he was in was T-boned.

The defendant appeared in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court on July 16, with one arm in a sling after being charged the day before with one count each of breaching a DVO, obstructing police and possessing pipes.

Defence lawyer Stephanie Smith said while her client was being taken to the watchhouse, the police vehicle he was in was T-boned and his collarbone was broken.

She said he requires surgery and is in a significant amount of pain.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said police are investigating a two-vehicle traffic crash involving a police vehicle transporting a man, and a utility in Alton Downs on Tuesday afternoon, 15 July.

She said a marked police vehicle collided with a utility vehicle at the intersection of Hunt and Tyrell roads about 5.15pm.

The spokeswoman said a police officer sustained minor shoulder injuries.

She said the driver of the utility was not physically injured and no charges have been laid with investigations ongoing.

Ms Smith said her client was homeless and had no “positive support”.

Police prosecutor Mirren Smith said the defendant allegedly climbed onto the roof of the aggrieved’s residence on one occasion and was found sitting on a bed using his phone on another.

She said the defendant allegedly blamed the aggrieved for his offending, saying he had nowhere to go.

Ms Smith said when police arrived, the defendant allegedly ran, resulting in a 2km foot pursuit before they caught him and arrested him.

She said he was allegedly possessing drug utensils at the time.

“He’s not helping himself by using drugs,” Ms Smith said.

“No wonder he’s got mental health issues where he’s got a diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia, where he’s actively using drugs at the moment.”

She said the defendant was on bail at the time of these recent alleged offences for similar offending and she submitted he was an unacceptable risk of reoffending.

The defendant called out from the dock that he had rung everywhere looking for somewhere to stay but had no luck so he walked to the alleged offending location.

Magistrate Lance Rundle decided to give the defendant another chance after hearing he was now engaged with the Court Link program to help him with accommodation and other issues.

The man was granted bail and his charges were adjourned to August 20.
