A notorious bikie and former methamphetamines trafficker who was once ordered to pay the state government $14 million, is now fighting alleged minor traffic offences.

A notorious bikie and former methamphetamines trafficker who was once ordered to pay the state government $14 million, is now fighting alleged minor traffic offences.

James ‘Jimmy’ Thomas O’Brien, who is self-represented, appeared in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on May 11, charged with one count of fail to attach the number plate and one of driving a defective light vehicle.

Police prosecutor Clancy Fox said the charges arose from an incident on August 13, 2020, and Mr O’Brien drove a very distinctive vehicle.

Mr O’Brien claimed “they were just flexing their muscles”.

His magistrates court hearing was set down for July 21, 2023, and a brief of evidence was ordered.

Mr O’Brien, of Rebels Motorcycle Club, produced hundreds of kilograms of speed worth more than $28 million from 1997 to 2003.

Chief Justice Tim Carmody ordered in 2015 ordered O’Brien and his trafficking partner, Mackay man Michael Paul Falzon, forfeit $14,051,238.56 each to the State of Queensland as proceeds of crime.
