The lawyer for a drug user with an 11-page criminal record claims his client’s five-month crime spree and 24 offences are the result of “living a chaotic lifestyle” with no secure accommodation.

Robert Alexander Nisbet, 40, drove while disqualified by court order twice - once while on drugs and the other while under the influence of an intoxicating substance, Rockhampton Magistrates Court heard on November 4.

He also had drugs in his possession both times - methamphetamines and 1.77 grams of cocaine on the first occasion on March 30 at Berserker and GHB (gamma hydroxybutyrate) on the second.

His lawyer, Felicity Davis, told the court Nisbet was on his way to a party at Airlie Beach when he was busted for the drug drive offence on March 30, 2024.

She said his drug of choice was meth.

Nisbet was also busted, on various dates up to July 4, with drug pipes, property suspected used in drug offences, 27 rounds of ammunition and a knife in a public place.

He also contravened an order to provide access to electronically stored information and using a carriage service to menace or harass someone two days in a row.

Police prosecutor Clancy Fox said Nisbet also kicked a glass door at an office for the Department of Child Safety on May 22 which resulted in a wilful damage charge.

Ms Davis said Nisbet had worked in the lead up to this sentence proceeding for AB Civil Contracting and had progressed to lead hand supervisor.

She said he now had secure accommodation with his mother in Deception Bay and she has been driving him to and from work.

Ms Davis said Nisbet’s partner lived in Cairns but planned to relocate to Brisbane and the couple would get their own accommodation.

She said he was clean of illicit drugs and now had a prescription for medicinal marijuana.

Nisbet pleaded guilty to one count of possessing more than two grams of schedule one drug, two counts of possessing a dangerous drug, six counts of breaching bail and two of disqualified driving.

He also pleaded guilty to one count each of drug driving, driving while under the influence of an intoxicating substance, possessing drug utensils, possessing property suspected of being used in a drug offence, illegal possession of explosives, possessing a knife in a public place, contravening an order about electronically stored information, wilful damage, contravening police direction and fail to appear in court.

Nisbet was sentenced to 18 months’ jail with immediate parole, disqualified from driving for four years and 10 months total and fined $500.

Convictions were recorded.
