Police respond to reports of man with ‘gun’ at a Rockhampton pub

A bar staffer has described the moment a man allegedly pulled a gun in the pub pokies room on Saturday, forcing an emergency evacuation.

Police have responded to reports of a man with what appeared to be a gun at a Queensland pub.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman confirmed on Saturday officers had been called at 11.31am after reports a man allegedly pulled out a “gun-like object” at a licensed premises in North Rockhampton.

The Kalka Palms Hotel Motel on Lakes Creek Rd in Berserker was evacuated of staff and patrons.

A staff member at the pub told The Morning Bulletin that all staff that everyone was safe but “still a bit anxious”.

“It was very stressful,” she said

She also said she saw the man on the pub’s CCTV footage at the beginning of the incident when he started allegedly being aggressive and “next minute, we were all outside”.

A second QPS spokesman told this publication at 11.55am that a male was in police custody after the incident during which the man allegedly made threats.

He said no one was injured and the man was assisting police with their inquiries.

Investigations are ongoing.
