Passenger from crash who allegedly fled scene bitten by police dog

A passenger involved in a collision with a car was bitten by a police dog in bushland after allegedly attempting to flee the scene of the drama.

A passenger involved in a collision with a car was bitten by a police dog in bushland after allegedly attempting to flee the scene of the drama.

Police said that about 7.20pm on Tuesday April 30, a head-on collision occurred between a dark coloured Ford Ranger utility and a black Suzuki Swift at the intersection of Eimeo Road and Carl Court in Rural View, Mackay.

The Ford Ranger then crashed into a ditch and the passenger, a 37-year-old Beaconsfield man, attempted to flee the scene, police allege.

He was tracked by Dog Squad to nearby bushland. He sustained a dog bite to his arm and was taken to Mackay Base Hospital in a stable condition.

He was later charged with obstruct police officer and was due to appear before Mackay Magistrates Court on Wednesday, May 1.

The driver of the Ford Ranger, a 24-year-old Mackay woman, was physically unharmed.

She was arrested at the scene and charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle and adversely affected by an intoxicating substance with prior conviction and driving of a motor vehicle without a driver licence.

She was also due to appear before Mackay Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

The driver and sole occupant of the Suzuki Swift, a 26-year-old Dolphin Heads woman, sustained arm injuries as a result of the crash.

Investigators are appealing for anyone with dashcam vision of the traffic crash to contact police.
