Named: Latest Biloela region drivers to face court for drink-driving, drug-driving or disqualified driving

A meth addict working as a motel cleaner at Biloela has been given a jail sentence after her fourth drug-driving offence in the past five years. Meanwhile, one of the latest drink-drivers caught decided to drive just 500m to get home when he could have, and should have, walked.

Fifteen people pleaded guilty in Biloela Magistrates Court on February 23 to traffic offences including drink-driving, drug-driving and disqualified driving.

Here is what each of them did and what penalties they received.

Leeann Tracy Jaraminas, 46, has been given a jail sentence for her fourth drug-driving offence in the past five years.

Jaraminas, a motel cleaner at Biloela, was caught driving with cannabis in her system on November 28 last year.

Solicitor Pierre Lammersdorf said Jaraminas was only educated to Year 6 and was currently employed as a cleaner at a Biloela motel.

Mr Lammersdorf said Jaraminas had been addicted to ice and that addiction started 24 years ago.

He said Jaraminas was on parole at the time of committing this offence.

Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale sentenced Jaraminas to three months’ jail, wholly suspended for 18 months.

Jaraminas was disqualified from driving for nine months.

Ken Richard Graving, 25, was caught drink-driving on Ebony Way, Biloela, on January 15.

He blew a reading of .067.

The court heard Graving had been at a friend’s house and made the decision to drive just 500m back to his residence when he could have, and should have, walked.

With no history, Graving was fined $350 and disqualified from driving for one month.

Ryan Keith Storey, 37, was caught driving with cannabis in his system on the Leichhardt Highway at Dululu on December 14 last year.

The court heard Storey had smoked cannabis the previous evening.

With no previous drug-driving nor criminal history, Storey was fined $350 and disqualified from driving for two months.

He was granted a restricted work licence for his job as a mechanical co-ordinator.

Murray Keith Mcdonald, 64, was caught driving with cannabis in his system on the Dawson Highway at Banana on December 21 last year.

With no similar offending on his history in the past five years, Mcdonald, who is on a disability support pension, was fined $350 and disqualified from driving for one month.

William Tapp, 55, was caught driving with cannabis in his system on the Capricorn Highway at Westwood on November 29 last year.

The court heard Tapp told police that he had smoked the drug three days prior.

With no history of drug-driving, Tapp was fined $350 and disqualified from driving for one month.

He was granted a restricted work licence for his job at a performance horses business.

Francis William Guy Williams, 65, was caught driving unlicensed at Biloela on December 10 last year because his licence had been disqualified for a speeding offence (more than 40kmh over the speed limit).

The court heard that Williams had a three-page traffic history and Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale told him “you need to stop speeding”.

Ms Beckinsale fined Williams $300 and disqualified him for the minimum mandatory six months.

Tait James Hamilton, 49, was caught driving unlicensed and over the no alcohol limit on the Baralaba-Woorabinda Road on October 17 last year.

Hamilton’s blood alcohol reading was .049.

With a previous drug-driving offence on his history, the disability pensioner was fined $500 and disqualified from driving for three months.

Charles William Miles, 56, was caught drink-driving on Gladstone Road, Biloela, on January 15.

The court heard that Miles had been drinking while playing golf earlier in the day, and after being tested he returned a reading of .059.

With no offending of this sort in the past five years, Miles, a health care provider at Biloela, was fined $350 and disqualified from driving for one month.

William Shane Bernard Lanson, 30, was caught driving with cannabis in his system on Gladstone Road, Biloela, on December 22 last year.

The court heard that Lanson, a builder who lived at Biloela and worked in Gladstone, told police that he had smoked an hour prior to being intercepted.

With no previous offending of this kind in the past five years, Lanson was fined $350 and disqualified from driving for one month.

Saiasi Tufanua, 44, was caught drink-driving at Grevillea St, Biloela, on January 16.

The court heard that at 1.25am on that day, police found Tufanua asleep in the driver’s seat of a vehicle.

He subsequently blew a reading of .157.

Solicitor Richard Parks said Tufanua was a meatworker who was here on a Visa, and he had been drinking in the car and had fallen asleep there.

Tufanua was fined $700 and disqualified from driving for six months.

Bodie John Collins, 32, was caught drug-driving and driving while SPER suspended on the Dawson Highway at Banana on August 18.

The court heard that Collins told police he had smoked cannabis the evening prior.

With two previous drug-driving offences in 2021 and 2020, Collins, who is currently on a carer’s pension, was fined $900 and disqualified from driving for seven months.

Bradley William Naumann, 45, was caught driving while demerit-point disqualified, and then a few weeks later, while unlicensed.

Naumann’s first offence happened on the Dawson Hwy at Biloela on January 4, and the second on Gladstone Rd, Biloela, on February 14.

Representing himself in court, Naumann told Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale that he was unemployed at the moment and she fined him $600 and disqualified him from driving for six months.

Timothy Wayne Want, 27, was caught driving with cannabis in his system while the holder of a probationary licence on Callide St, Biloela, on December 1 last year.

The court heard that Want had a previous drug-driving offence in 2021 and he told Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale “obviously I didn’t learn the first time”.

Want, who is on Jobseeker, was fined $550 and disqualified from driving for three months.

Ian Stuart Carseldine, 47, blew a reading of .135 when he was caught drink-driving at Theodore on January 21.

With no offending of this sort in the past five years, Carseldine, who is self-employed, was fined $750 and disqualified from driving for six months.

William Richard Boundy, 55, was caught driving with methamphetamines in his system on Kariboe St, Biloela, on December 23 last year.

Boundy, who is on a disability support pension, had no offending of this kind on his history in the past five years and he was fined $350 and disqualified from driving for one month.
