“You are the author of your own misery,” Justice Crow told the Central Queensland convicted drug trafficker.

A convicted Central Queensland drug trafficker went on a “deeply troubling” crime spree dangerous driving, stealing, trying to break into homes and businesses before being arrested and busted possessing drugs.

Tyson Jeffrey Ellis, 26, and his two co-offenders started a daylong crime spree in the Brisbane region on October 5, 2023, by trying to kick in a door to a Thornlands residence at 6.20am and were disrupted by a concerned neighbour, the Supreme Court in Rockhampton heard on August 30.

Ellis stole a mobile phone from the centre console of a delivery truck about 25 minutes later.

The group of offenders entered another Thornlands residence 15 minutes later, waking up one of the occupiers who told them to leave.

Police found the trio in a Holden Commodore travelling down Boundary Road and attempted to intercept, however, the driver accelerated and led to a police chase where the Commodore swerved on the wrong side of the road and sped away.

Later that day, Ellis attended a florist and snatched a bag in front of customers.

Two months earlier, Ellis was busted receiving tainted property – a jackhammer.

Justice Graeme Crow described this offending as “deeply troubling” and “conduct consistent with someone who is on drugs and out of their mind”.

When Ellis was arrested on October 6, he had three grams of marijuana in his possession.

Ellis had been sentenced in the Supreme Court in Rockhampton in April 2021 for trafficking drugs which was discovered after he lost control of a vehicle while driving through a McDonalds drive-through in Gladstone and caused $6476 in damages.

He had been handed a four-year prison term for trafficking methamphetamines, suspended after serving 16 months in custody, operational for four years.

The operational period of that sentence was extended by 12 months in May 2022 after Ellis was busted possessing marijuana.

Three months after the extension, Ellis reoffended with nine offences, including five which occurred on the same day and was sentenced in the Brisbane Magistrates Court to nine-months prison with immediate parole eligibility.

Justice Crow found Ellis breached the April 2021 sentence again in the Supreme Court in Rockhampton on August 30 and he wholly activated the sentence with immediate parole release.“You are the author of your own misery,” Justice Crow told Ellis.
