Meth addict Tiffany Jayne Whitechurch busted supplying drugs

The Queensland parents of a meth-addicted woman have given a ‘powerful’ account of the extreme measures they took to help their daughter escape the control of her supplier.

Tiffany Jayne Whitechurch, 26, was supported by her parents Grant and Michelle in Rockhampton District Court when she was sentenced on December 9 for four drug supplies charges, two of possessing drugs and one of possessing anything used in supplying drugs.

A Central Queensland couple has “been to hell and back” helping their daughter who became addicted to methamphetamines and was coerced into dealing the illicit substance by her supplier.

Tiffany Jayne Whitechurch, 26, was supported by her parents Grant and Michelle in Rockhampton District Court when she was sentenced for four drug supply charges, two of possessing drugs and one of possessing anything used in supplying drugs.

Whitechurch was busted possessing meth and marijuana on November 22, 2021.

The four meth supplies of 0.5 grams, seven grams, 0.5 grams and 0.2 grams, took place in September and October, 2021.

Defence barrister Sam Di Carlo said the facts outlined in the first drug supply charge state another offender had control of his client, who was a young lady addicted to drugs at the time.

Judge Jeff Clarke said:“(She was) under the virtual control of another person, doing his bidding, so that (she) maintained (her) supply of drugs,” he said.

The court heard Whitechurch’s parents had taken their daughter back in immediately after these offences occurred and they drove her to Townsville, admitting her to a St Vincent de Paul five-week in-house rehabilitation program.

Mr Di Carlo said Whitechurch’s parents, in their letter to the court, talked about how they have “been to hell and back” helping their daughter.

Judge Clarke said the parents’s letter was “very powerful” and showed they had tried to support Whitechurch for many years as she abused drugs which impacted her physical and mental health, along with keeping “poor associations”.

Mr Di Carlo said his client “developed an insight into her own behaviour” through the rehab program.

“My client is a person who was addicted and consistently fights the demons of going back into the situation,” Mr Di Carlo said.

During the stint in rehab, Whitechurch was a FIFO worker at Carmichael Mine on a three-month contract where she was drug tested regularly.

Afterwards, Whitechurch returned to her parents in Moranbah and worked at other mines.

She now works at the Black Nugget pub as she lost her driver’s licence for drug driving before the meth deals and her parents are no longer able to drive her to work.

Mr Di Carlo said his client says she is progressing with her drug rehabilitation but “she hasn’t quite made it” yet.

Judge Clarke, on December 9, sentenced Whitechurch to 18-months prison, wholly suspended and operational for two years.
