Drug trafficking mum Dahna Maree Jubbs faces prison for driving on meth

A meth-using mum and convicted trafficker could be sent back to jail after she was caught drug driving... twice.

A meth-using mum who was “wholly immersed” in her ex-partner’s drug enterprise faces the prospect of returning to prison after she fronted court again this week for two counts of drug driving.

Dahna Maree Jubb, 36, previously received a partially-suspended prison term for drug trafficking in March 2023 for her role in the violent drug business.

Her then-partner, Darren Steven Burnell, was the target of police operation Sierra Decompress, which led to the discovery of their offending, including her role as Burnell’s “romantic and business partner” throughout the trafficking period between November 2020 and February 2021.

Drug trafficker Darren Steven Burnell, 42, tried to flee police on a motorcycle, crashed into a police car and tried to out run officers before being busted with $25,560 cash of drug proceeds and drugs in his backpack.

During the trafficking period, Jubb supplied at least 11.4g of meth and supplied drugs to at least nine different customers of Burnell’s trafficking operation.

Jubb would supply drugs to customers on Burnell’s behalf, collect drug debts and would encourage Burnell when he committed violence to collect drug debts.

Jubb was sentenced to three years imprisonment to be suspended after serving seven months and five days for an operational period of three years.

This week, she faced Rockhampton Magistrates Court after being busted drug driving twice – once while demerit point suspended, unlicensed, possessing methamphetamines and glass pipes.

Police prosecutor Mirren Smith said Jubb was intercepted driving a black Mercedes sedan on Stanley Street on November 18, 2023, at 8.05pm and her salvia tested positive for meth.

Jubb was again intercepted, this time on Alma Street in Rockhampton city, on April 7 at 8.57pm, with meth in her system.

Ms Smith said checks revealed Jubb’s licence was demerit point suspended between March 26, 2024 and June 25, 2024.

“The defendant said to police she thought the suspension hadn’t yet commenced,” she said.

Ms Smith said Jubb also told police she had “a couple of tokes on a meth pipe” a couple a nights prior and was heading to her boyfriend’s house.

She said police searched Jubb’s handbag and found meth in a clip-seal bag and a used glass pipe inside a glasses case.

Ms Smith said Jubb told police she didn’t know who owned the items.

Defence lawyer Samantha Legrady said Jubb had a two-year-old child and was on a parenting Centrelink payment.

She said when she asked Jubb what she was doing about her drug issues, Jubb responded she was “actively looking at rehabilitation”.

“But she has found it a little bit difficult given that she’s got a two-year-old in her care,” Ms Legrady said.

“So she’s trying to get into rehabilitation where it’s not live-in but can attend daily.

“She has also been recommended to attend parenting courses which assists with rehabilitation and still caring for a child in her care, and she instructs she is going to do that.”

Ms Legrady said her one-page criminal record includes the Supreme Court suspended sentence, which could see her back before that court at some stage.

Magistrate Cameron Press said when Jubb went back to the Supreme Court, she was risking her freedom.

“It’s obvious that drugs have overtaken your life and they’re destroying it,” he said.

“You’ve got to do something about it.”

Mr Press placed Jubb on probation for 18-months and disqualified her from driving for a year.

Convictions were recorded.
