Dillon Colin Marshall jailed for drug supplies

Just months after being paroled for torching a stolen car – a crime which backfired when he suffered “extensive” burns - a drug dealer with a “poor” choice of mates was back in trouble with the law.

A drug dealer previously convicted for trafficking marijuana and torching a stolen car has again been busted supplying drugs, this time while on parole.

Police found 16 messages about drug supplies of 28 grams total on devices belonging to Dillon Colin Marshall during a search which also uncovered bullets and drug paraphernalia, Rockhampton District Court heard this month.

Marshall, 29, had been released on parole on October 16, 2023, after being sentenced to a three-year prison term for torching a stolen car – an act which backfired by way of Marshall suffering “quite extensive injuries to his arms and face”.

Three months after his release from prison this time, Marshall, who had been convicted of trafficking marijuana for seven months in 2021, was back to his old habits peddling drugs.

Judge Jeff Clarke said Marshall’s phone, which was seized by police during a search on April 20, 2024, had 16 messages about drug supplies between February 22 and March 20, 2024.

“When police raided you, they were aware of what you were up to,” he said, telling the court the most serious supplies were two of 3.5 grams of methamphetamine for $1100.

Marshall was also found to be possessing .22 calibre bullets, marijuana, a pink glass bong and scales.

He was also on a suspended sentence at the time for break and enter premise and committing an indictable offence.

Marshall was previously sentenced by Judge Clarke on May 14, 2021 to two and a half years’ jail for trafficking marijuana for seven months at a street level to fund his own habit.

He and his co-accused made at least 204 supplies to at least 52 people in seven months.

The trafficking involved marijuana in the Rockhampton area between September 16, 2019 and April 14, 2020.

He was sentenced again by Judge Clarke on July 1, 2023 for setting fire to a stolen 2015 Isuzu D-Max while it was in a creek bed at Glendale.

Marshall was given immediate parole eligibility with 217 days presentence custody taken into account but not declared.

Defence barrister Jordan Ahlstrand said Marshall’s father still supported his client, diligently visiting him while he was in jail.

The court heard Marshall also had a partner who had two children.

Judge Clarke said it was Marshall’s drug dependence and “poor peer network” that continued to ruin his life and had done for the past four and a half years with Marshall being in and out of prison.

He ordered Marshall’s suspended sentence be activated in full, sentenced him to 18-months for the 16 drug supplies with both sentences to run together.

He also ordered 352 days presentence custody be taken into consideration but not declared as time served and gave Marshall immediate parole eligibility.
