Central Qld man has matters mentioned in Rockhampton Magistrates Court

A man has appeared in court charged with child stealing following an incident where an 11-month-old girl was allegedly taken from a home. Here’s what happened.

A man has appeared in court for the first time charged with child stealing following an incident in Yeppoon on October 4, that sparked a statewide Amber Alert, where an 11-month-old girl was allegedly taken from a home.

The man, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, and child were found on the morning of October 5 in Yeppoon ‘safe and well’.

According to police, the man was in Lammermoor on October 4 at 10.45pm when he allegedly took the child, who was known to him.

The man was arrested and charged with one count of child stealing in relation to the incident, as well as one count each of deprivation of liberty, choking and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle (all domestic violence offences) in relation to incidents involving a woman on October 4.

He was additionally charged with one count each of assaults occasioning bodily harm (domestic violence offence) and driving without a licence disqualified by a court order.

His matters were first mentioned in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on October 5.

His matters were mentioned in court again on October 7 where they were adjourned to December 7.

He was remanded in custody.
