A Central Queensland man hired a teenage girl barely the employable legal age, and made clear his “disgusting” sexual attraction to the child almost 40 years his junior.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, fronted Rockhampton District Court this week, pleading guilty to one count of indecent dealing with a child under 16.

Judge Jeff Clarke said the child, aged 13, went to work at the man’s business and over a period of time, the offender “made comments and acted towards her in a way that confirmed (his) aberrant and quite frankly disgusting sexual attraction towards the child by complimenting her, talking about sexual matters, exposing her to touching (him) through massage, taking to the beach and also initiating other physical contact”, and asking for intimate pictures.

He said the girl quit the job after the offender masturbated in front of her and she told her parents and police what happened.

Defence barrister Simon Lewis said his client had a long standing issue with marijuana, and now has a prescription for medicinal marijuana for treating chronic pain and post traumatic stress disorder.

He said his client, who is in his 50s, was a single man with one child with whom he does not have contact.

Judge Clarke sentenced the man to 336 days prison and declared 336 days as time already served.

The court heard the man had been subject to two suspended sentences - one month and two month prison terms - at the time of this offending.

Judge Clarke ordered those suspended sentences be activated in whole and served concurrently with 336 day prison time and ordered the defendant to be released immediately on parole.

The defendant, who had no prior convictions for sexual offences, is now a reportable sex offender.
