Central Qld man child sex abuse charges in Rockhampton court

A young Central Queensland man has been slapped with a maintain sexual relationship with a child charge among 31 charges presented to the higher courts.

A young Central Queensland man has been slapped with a maintain sexual relationship with a child charge among 31 charges presented to the higher courts.

The 22-year-old, who can not be named for legal reasons, is currently in custody at the Capricornia Correctional Centre, the District Court in Rockhampton heard on November 8.

The man is accused of sexual abuse offences against three children who are now aged 14, 13 and seven between August 2017 and June 2023.

According to court documents, the main victim in the majority of the allegations were against the seven-year-old girl when she was aged five.

The maintain sexual relationship charge, which was not among the charges when the man’s matters were in the magistrates jurisdiction, allegation spans 12 weeks.

The man also allegedly photographed the children.

The defendant’s charges presented in the district court on November 8 were:

• one count of maintain a sexual relationship with a child
• one of making child exploitation material (domestic violence)
• one of possessing child exploitation material
• one of attempted rape (domestic violence)
• seven of indecent treatment of a child (take photograph) under 12
• two of indecent treatment of a child under 12
• 11 counts of indecent treatment of a child under 12 (take photograph) - domestic violence
• six of indecent treatment of a child under 12 - domestic violence
• one of indecent treatment of a child under 16 (expose)
• one of indecent treatment of a child under 16 (indecent film, etc)

Defence lawyer Samantha Legrady said the defendant had indicated he would likely not contest the matters but she needed to meet with him and a barrister.

The matter was adjourned to November 29.
