A man who assaulted another man over sexual messages and a YouTube video sent to a teenage girl has been ordered to pay compensation.
Barry Stanley, 44, pleaded guilty on June 27 in Rockhampton Magistrates Court to one count of assault occasioning bodily harm.
The court heard Stanley went to the adult victim’s residence and called him out for a fight on May 20, 2022.
The victim confronted Stanley who then pinned him on the ground and choked him.
The victim escaped the choke hold only to be punched in the back of the head by Stanley.
Defence lawyer Brendan Gimbert said the defendant had sent a 15-year-old girl sexually explicit messages and there was a YouTube video involved.
He said his client, who had worked in various industries since leaving school in Year 10, was intoxicated when he decided to go to the victim’s home.
“The victim showed little remorse for his actions,” Mr Gimbert claimed.
The court heard the victim did not sustain any ongoing serious injuries and photographs provided showed abrasions to his arms and knees.
Stanley, who had a prior assault conviction on his criminal record, was sentenced to 12 months prison with immediate parole.
He was also ordered to pay $400 compensation to the victim.
