Allan Rinaldis targeted Drakes Biloela in a revenge attack after being banned from the supermarket for life

The drama all started at Drakes Biloela with a dodgy $10 note and escalated from there.

A man’s opportunistic revenge attack on a Biloela supermarket came after he was banned from the store for life.

Allan Rinaldis, 46, pleaded guilty in Biloela Magistrates Court on October 13 to a stealing charge.

The court heard that on September 21, about 2.30pm, police received a call about a banner which had been stolen from Drakes Biloela on Grevillea Street.

A second informant reported to police that a man was riding a bicycle on Rainbow Street while holding the Drakes banner.

Police attended a house on that street and spoke to Rinaldis.

He told police that he rode his bike past the Drakes supermarket, took the banner, and rode home with it.

Rinaldis said he stole the banner because he was angry about being permanently banned from the Drakes supermarket.

In court, the prosecution did not seek restitution for the banner.

Rinaldis’s solicitor explained the background to his client’s actions.

“The defendant let his eye get the better of him,” the solicitor said.

“This all arose out of an incident that occurred at Drakes where he was handed a $10 note which wasn’t the full note (piece missing off it).

“When he realised he had been given that, he went back to Drakes supermarket and said ‘you gave me this, it’s no good’.

“They said ‘we can’t do anything about it’.

“He went to the bank, the bank ill-advised him, or ill-informed him, they can’t do anything about it.

“Which is rubbish.

“One can get a form from the bank that is sent to the Reserve Bank, the Reserve Bank then measures the note and divides it into a percentage.

“So if there’s 10 percent missing, you get nine dollars. That’s a fact, I’ve dealt with it.

“The bank couldn’t be bothered doing that.”

The solicitor said Rinaldis then went back to Drakes supermarket and a manager there was not prepared to look at CCTV footage.

“He (then) went to the police - the police said ‘we can’t make the manager look at three days of footage’ (because it was three days since the $10 note incident).”

The court heard that Rinaldis, who was unemployed, had no dishonesty offences on his history and Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale fined him $250.

No conviction was recorded.
