A man accused of choking the mother of his four children more than two years ago will be fighting the allegations which have just surfaced.
Aaron David Murphy, 44, has been charged with one count of choking and two of assault occasioning bodily harm (AOBH).
He made an application for bail in Rockhampton Magistrates Court in mid-February.
Police prosecutor Brandon Selic said there were photographs of injuries from the alleged offences from May 12 (one each of choking and AOBH), along with the third offence on June 19.
“I’m not sure why this matter has taken this long to get to court,” he said.
Defence lawyer Rebecca Harris said Mr Murphy, who works at Hastings Deering, and the complainant separated in November 2022 and divorce proceedings were pending.
She said they had four children together who Mr Murphy claims the complainant has stopped allowing him to see for about a year since he entered a new relationship.
Ms Harris said given that these allegations are dated, almost three years ago, there would not be much evidence that could be gathered.
She said he is contesting these allegations.
Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale granted Mr Murphy bail with conditions to report to police twice a week and not contact the complainant.
Briefs of evidence were ordered and his matters were adjourned to April 9.
