Seven people hospitalised after harvester strikes power line

A harvester reportedly struck a power line at a pineapple farm on the Capricorn Coast injuring multiple people and killing a man in his 20s.

UPDATE 5PM: A young man has tragically died after a harvester struck power lines at a Capricorn Coast pineapple farm Wednesday morning.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman confirmed a 25-year-old man from Yeppoon died in the incident at Lake Mary Pines on Ingrey Road, Bungundarra. Six other people were taken to hospital in stable conditions.

He said police were preparing a report for the coroner and Workplace Health and Safety was investigating the incident.

The tragedy has shocked the Capricorn Coast community, with many sharing their support for those involved on social media.

“We lost a great mate and a brother to some,” Jon Milliner Apf-i wrote on Facebook.

“Hope everyone is OK such hard workers these people are,” Angela Boyce said.

“Thoughts and prayers for those involved,” Ben Clifton wrote.

Lake Mary Pines is a family run, second generation pineapple farm run by the Stevens family.

It is known for producing more than 2.5 million pieces of fruit for the Australian market each year. It supplies fruit to many markets including Woolworths, Coles and Aldi. It also supplied to Golden Circle.

UPDATE, 12.40PM: Seven people have been transported to hospital after a harvester had made contact with power lines at a pineapple farm on Ingrey Road, Bungundarra, on Wednesday morning.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said a man in his 50s, a man in his 30s and a third man were transported to Rockhampton Hospital in stable conditions with minor injuries.

The spokesman said a man in his 30s and a man and woman in their 20s were transported to Capricorn Coast Hospital in stable conditions with minor injuries.

He said the seventh patient was transported to Capricorn Coast Hospital in a critical condition.

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland and the Electrical Safety Office are assisting Queensland Police Service with their inquiries.

INITIAL: One person is in a critical condition and reportedly unconscious after a harvester struck a power line at a pineapple farm on the Capricorn Coast.

Emergency services were called to the farming incident at Lake Mary Pines on Ingrey Road, Bungundarra, at 9.23am.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services, Queensland Ambulance Service, and Queensland Police Services are on scene.

Those involved are located in the middle of a pine paddock.

A QFES spokeswoman confirmed that a harvester had made contact with power lines.

The spokeswoman said Ergon Energy were on scene isolating power.

According to QAS spokeswoman, seven patients were being assessed, including six patients in stable conditions and one male patient in a critical condition.

RACQ Capricorn Helicopter Rescue was tasked to the scene.
