New development plans revealed for old church site at Yeppoon

The development would help alleviate the housing shortage issue in the region.

Plans have been submitted for a new two-storey, 18 unit apartment block on the land which formerly housed an Anglican church in Yeppoon.

The St James the Fisherman Church was erected in 1911 and the congregation left in 2010.

The building was removed around 2019.

The diocese sold the land in April 2021 for an undisclosed price.

New development plans were submitted last month to Livingstone Shire Council.

The proposed apartments are a mix of two, three and four bedrooms with one-and-half and two bathrooms.

Access to the development will be from Queen Street and the application includes 30 on-site car parks for visitors and tenants.

The design of the development pays homage to the old church with steep gable roofs and exposed timber trusses and has been aptly named ‘St James Terrace’.

The council application notes the real estate boom in the Capricorn Coast and low vacancy rate, with this development having the potential to alleviate the issue.

The application states the units “provide additional residential living within close distance to the town centre and Yeppoon Main Beach”.
