Livingstone Shire Council reveals Yeppoon e-scooter trial results

Three months after e-scooters were introduced to Yeppoon, a report card has marked the trial to be “an immediate success” with a low rate of safety incidents reported.
Neuron Mobility was granted a 12-month trial permit to operate e-scooters in the coastal town, and in January Livingstone Shire councillors were given an update from officer level on what has transpired so far.
Councillors were told that from the launch on November 10 last year to December 31, more than 18,300 e-scooter trips had been taken in Yeppoon.
“Neuron has advised only four safety incidents have been reported, all classified as minor on the severity matrix,” the council’s executive officer Communities, Jo McClennan, said in her report.
Ms McClennan said Neuron had promptly actioned community feedback and had issued warnings and bans to riders not following riding rules.
In addition to this, two parking stations and “geo fencing” had been adjusted to meet community needs in populated areas, Ms McClennan said.
“Neuron completed engagement with Queensland Police, Capricorn Coast Hospital and over 50 local businesses prior to the rollout and overwhelmingly these stakeholders and business owners have been extremely receptive and see e-scooters as a positive addition to the community,” Ms McClennan said.
Ms McClennan said due to the success of the roll out, Neuron had increased the number of e-scooters from 100 up to the 150 permit cap to meet high rider demand on the coast.
“Neuron have also hired additional staff members in Yeppoon to service the growing market,” she said.
“Should the trial continue to be a success, a formal tender process will commence in late 2023 for a continued e-scooter presence in Yeppoon.”
