The elderly man died “unexpectedly” after being hit by a car on Kerrigan St in Frenchville on the morning of July 19.

Paramedics were called to the incident on the busy street about 8.15am.

Donna Shaw, who is married to Kenny’s brother’s son Jeffrey, said Kenny had a love of country music, with Slim Dusty and Kenny Rogers two favourites.

She said he also loved fishing at the Causeway Lake and was active in the garden.

“He loved his country music, liked to have a few drinks and loved gardening,” she said.

“He was happy, he was always doing things for everyone else, he wouldn’t say no to anyone.

“He liked doing things around the house and gardening and fixing things.

“There’s a lot (I’ll miss), I already miss going shopping with him, he came shopping with me all the time, he loved just getting out.”

Kenny was born in the Rockhampton region, but lived in Dubbo with his wife Beverley for a period of time before moving back.

For many years he worked for council driving trucks as a ‘garbo’.

The couple didn’t have children, but had many nieces and nephews he adored and adored him in return.

Donna said Kenny turned 70 on July 4, and she organised a celebration with family which was held at the Frenchville Sports Club on July 6.

“It was mainly family from here in Rocky, there was one up in Cairns who couldn’t make it but came down to visit about a week after and had a few drinks with him,” she said.

“He really enjoyed having them all there he loved his nieces and nephews, he treated them all like grandkids.”

Donna said Kenny’s wife passed away 15 years ago, with plans for his ashes to be put with hers in Newcastle.

“We haven’t really planned too much yet, but he wanted his ashes to go down to Beverley down near Newcastle,” she said.

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up by Kenny’s family members to help pay for his funeral which has so far raised $495 out of a goal of $6500.
