Queensland's racing integrity body has revealed its position in relation to a Rockhampton horse trainer and a jockey being involved in an ugly bar room brawl at a licensed venue in the Beef Capital.

Rockhampton bar brawl

Queensland's racing integrity body will take no action in relation to a Rockhampton horse trainer and a jockey being involved in an ugly bar room brawl at a licensed venue in the Beef Capital last month.

When the November 18 incident was initially reported on by The Morning Bulletin, the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission said it was aware of the incident and was yet to determine if it was a matter for its jurisdiction.

This week QRIC Acting Commissioner Darryl Johnson confirmed the integrity body's position.

"Our stewards are aware of the incident involving the behaviour of licensed participants at a Rockhampton hotel on 18 November," Mr Johnson said.

"This is a civil matter and as such QRIC does not have jurisdiction."

Previously, a Queensland Police Service spokeswoman confirmed police were not called to the hotel on the night of the incident and there was no record of it being a police matter.

INITIAL: In a horrible look for Rockhampton racing, a local horse trainer and a jockey have been involved in an ugly bar room brawl at a licensed venue in the city.

The Queensland Racing Integrity Commission is aware of the incident and has yet to determine if it is a matter for its jurisdiction.

“The Commission is aware of an alleged incident involving licensed participants in a Rockhampton hotel and is reviewing if it is a matter for the stewards,” QRIC’s chief thoroughbred steward Peter Chadwick told The Morning Bulletin.

CCTV footage of the late-night incident, which happened after a Rockhampton race day in November, shows the two men get involved in an altercation where the trainer pushes the jockey and the jockey falls to the ground.

The jockey gets himself up, and walks towards the trainer while the two men exchange words, and the trainer punches the jockey in the head.

Other patrons then intervene to separate the men.

The trainer walks towards an exit door unaccompanied and when he gets to it, he turns around seemingly in response to what is being said to him by the jockey.

The trainer then storms back into the bar and heads towards the jockey and patrons again attempt to get between the pair to diffuse the situation.

While this is happening, a woman strikes the trainer in the face with what appears to be an open-handed slap, and the trainer retaliates by striking the woman in the face with what appears to also be an open-handed slap.

Patrons are seen to come to the woman’s aid and remove her from the brawl.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman confirmed police were not called to the hotel on the night of the incident and there was no record of it being a police matter.
