Councillors and planning officers are expected to debate the controversial high rise development application at Emu Park next month.

The development is not on the agenda for the March ordinary council meeting and it is expected it will be in the following meeting, on April 19.

The application was lodged with Livingstone Shire Council in October by Rockhampton developer Rob Carr, for a $35 million seven-storey development with 49 units and shops on the vacant land across from the Pine Beach Hotel and the old mall where the fish and chip shop is.

The development will be an l-shape across the corner of Granville, Archer and Pattison Streets.

A public notification period was held from November to December and council received almost 200 submissions from the general public about the development.

Most of the submissions were against the development, and many took issue with the proposed seven-storey height, when the planning scheme was consulted with the community in 2018 and has a limit of four storeys.

When asked if council was considering all of the submissions, council was not able to indicate what its stance on the application was.

“In relation to the development application, council officers have reviewed all submissions made in respect of the proposal,” a council spokesperson said.

The project, which developer Mr Carr estimates would cost between $30-$35 million, would be the highest development in the town.

If approved, he expected the development would take 18 months to build.
