Investigations are continuing into the offshore death of a Victorian man off Great Keppel Island on Monday.

It is not currently known what happened to the 72-year-old man, however it is believed the person was snorkelling at the time of the incident.

“Police were called to Keppel Bay Marina at 4pm following reports of a sudden death,” a Queensland Police Service spokesman said.

He said a report would be prepared for the coroner following the non-suspicious death of a 72-year-old Victorian man.

The spokesman said the Australian Maritime Safety Association and WHSQ were investigating the man’s death.

Emergency services received the call at 2.28pm.

A Workplace Health and Safety Queensland spokesman said investigations into the incident were ongoing.

“Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) was notified on Sunday (15 July) of an incident on Great Keppel Island and is investigating,” the spokesman said.

“As this is a current investigation, WHSQ is not able to provide further comment at this time.”

An AMSA spokesman said they understood it was a matter for WHSQ.
