Former NRL player Jonus Pearson is returning to the CQ Capras for the 2022 Intrust Super Cup season.

The 26-year-old outside back made his debut with the club in 2015 before joining the Brisbane Broncos the following year.

He went on to play 11 NRL games for the Broncos, 10 with the St George Dragons and two with the Gold Coast Titans.

The former Yeppoon Seagull and St Brendan’s College student is now heading back to the region to bolster the Capras’ ranks.

Pearson joined the squad last week and is already making a big impression, according to head coach Lionel Harbin.

“He’s brought a lot of energy to the group,” Harbin said.

“It’s only been a week but he’s added a lot to our group already with his knowledge and experience.”

The Capras are two weeks into a six-week pre-season block and Harbin is pleased with what he’s seeing.

“We’ve got a good group. They’re all turning up, wanting to work hard, wanting to learn and get better which makes my job easier,” he said.

“We’ve been able to retain a lot of our players which is something that’s been one of the biggest challenges in years gone by.

“Being able to do that has been a big bonus so we’re not starting from scratch and we’re able to build on what we’ve got.”

It’s Harbin’s first year in the top job, taking the reins from Guy Williams who coached this season.

The Capras finished at the bottom of the ISC ladder with one win and two draws, but they were highly competitive in the majority of their games.

Harbin wants to see the team improve on that spirited showing in 2022.

“I know that looking at the table it didn’t look like we had a good year but that result didn’t really represent our performance.

“We put in some really strong performances in 2021 so it’s about turning those performances into results now.

“We just need to make sure we’re doing all the little things well because the little things add up to the big things.

“One thing we are focusing on is our attention to detail in everything we do - whether it’s in the gym, on the training field, our recovery or even doing stuff in the community.

“If we can implement it in everything we do, it will transfer to when we play.”
