Lionel Harbin has been named the Rockhampton Leagues Club Capras head coach for season 2022.
His appointment comes after current coach Guy Williams advised the club in June that he would not be taking on the role next year.
CEO Peter White said Harbin was a “great fit” for the Capras.
He has been heavily involved with the club as a player and coach.
He started his coaching career in the Super League as academy development officer with the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.
He has coached underage Capras teams, been an assistant Intrust Super Cup coach for several years and held the position as interim ISC head coach.
He currently coaches the Capras under-21s.
White described Harbin as one of the most qualified coaches in Central Queensland.
“Lionel is a great fit for our club in terms of delivering on the club’s strategic plan and achieving success for all involved and associated with the club, both on and off the field,” White said.
“Our club’s intent in recent years has been to promote from within when possible. This is not only in regard to our players but also our local coaching staff.
“We know Lionel’s passion for the Capras and Central Queensland and this, along with his experience and genuine care, made him an obvious choice.”
Several other key coaching appointments for 2022 have also been announced.
Kane Hardy - who coached the Capras under-18s to the semi-finals of the Mal Meninga Cup this year - will take on the under-21s, while Amanda Ohl will return as the Capras women’s coach for a third year.
The club advised that other coaching positions would be advertised and appointed soon.
