Bruce Highway crash at Bajool: Young man killed, two injured

A 24-year-old man has died after a horror three-vehicle crash on the Bruce Highway near Bajool, south of Rockhampton, on Wednesday afternoon.

It was the second fatality in the Central Queensland region in a matter of hours.

Emergency services rushed to the scene around 2:40pm following reports of the collision.

Police said initial investigations suggest a white Suzuki Jimny, driven by the Boyne Island man who was killed, was travelling south when it collided with a white Toyota HiLux heading north.

A grey Toyota HiLux, also travelling north, then collided with the already impacted white HiLux.

Tragically, the driver of the Suzuki Jimny was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 26-year-old man from Nundah in the white HiLux and a 28-year-old man from Kiama, NSW in the grey HiLux were both take to Rockhampton Base Hospital for treatment.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage to come forward.

The highway was closed for some time after the crash but has since been reopened.

Earlier, a Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said one of the two men taken to hospital had ankle pain while the other reported rib and neck pain.

A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said two QFD units attend the scene just south of Bajool near the Roberts Rd, Bruce Hwy intersection.

Another QFD spokesman confirmed the vehicle was “upside down”.

He said as of 4pm, only one QFD unit remained at the scene, and there was not much reported about the damaged to the second vehicle.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said the highway was closed in both directions.

At the time of the crash, Roadtec was also heading to the scene to take over traffic control and motorists were asked to stay away if possible.

The crash comes after a man died in a single-vehicle crash this morning at Colosseum near Miriam Vale in the Gladstone region.

Emergency crews were called to the crash, which happened on the Bruce Hwy south of Miriam Vale about 6.50am.

The QPS spokeswoman said the driver suffered critical injuries and was declared dead at the scene.
