All non-essential project work at Rookwood Weir is currently suspended and travel to and from the site west of Rockhampton has stopped after an external contractor who worked there last week tested positive to Covid.

Queensland Health reported on Sunday that the contractor, a Brisbane woman, tested positive on July 31.

It is believed she was infectious since July 28, the day on which she flew to Rockhampton. She returned to Brisbane on July 30.

There are concerns for the community of Mount Morgan after Year 10 students from the town’s high school visited the weir for a site tour and career development session.

All employees on-site at the weir are isolating in individual rooms and will quarantine for 14 days.

A Sunwater spokesperson said on Monday that contact details for all other workers and visitors to the site between Wednesday, July 28, and Friday, July 30, had been provided to Queensland Health.

“Everyone at the camp completed Covid tests over the weekend,” the spokesperson said.

“Sunwater’s priority is the safety of its people, customers, delivery partners and the community.

“Sunwater appreciates the impact on site staff and their families and is working with project partners to alleviate these impacts where possible.”

The spokesperson said a Covid response plan was in place and was being adhered to.

The on-site workers in quarantine were allowed outside by themselves for fresh air but there was no congregating.

“Sunwater will continue working with Queensland Health to support its contract tracing program,” the spokesperson said.
