A Depot Hill man accused of falsely telling police the bag he allegedly dumped in the Rockhampton Police Station had a bomb in it has made no application for bail in court.

Robert Joseph Sleeman, 20, appeared in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on Friday morning charged with one count of making a statement to police, knowing it was false, by stating there was an explosive substance in the station.

The alleged incident took place about 7.30pm Tuesday, January 4.

Police allege Mr Sleeman presented himself at the counter of the South Rockhampton Police Station on Bolsover Street.

It is alleged Mr Sleeman left a black bag and ran off.

The station was evacuated and an exclusion zone was set up.

Upon investigation, police determined the bag did not contain anything hazardous or harmful.

Mr Sleeman was charged the following day, on Wednesday, and was handed a court notice for that afternoon.

Mr Sleeman’s court matters were adjourned until Friday, where defence lawyer Felicity Davis ordered a brief of evidence and told the court there would be no application for bail.

Ms Davis said a Legal Aid application had been lodged and a bail application for Mr Sleeman may be made at a later date.

Mr Sleeman’s court matters were adjourned until March 2 and he was remanded in custody.
