Queensland State MPs according to ChatGPT

From their previous jobs to what they drive, where they live, how they holiday, what they stand for and of course how they look, we’ve asked AI to sketch typical Queensland MPs from different parties.

ChatGPT was asked to generate a profile of the typical MP that represented their party’s ideals within the Queensland parliament, whether that be LNP, Labor, Greens, or a Katter.

It has given a reflection of MPs’ policies and also their lifestyle, their typical profession, home life, the car they drive, and where they like to go on holidays.

These are the profiles that artificial intelligence has provided of Queensland’s elected representatives:

Labor State MP

Politically, they advocate for progressive, pro-worker policies that emphasise public service investment, fair wages, and sustainable infrastructure, reflecting their strong union ties and commitment to community welfare.

There are 36 Labor MPs sitting in the current Queensland parliament, and their average age is 50 years and eight months.

Union leaders and influencers have gravitated to parliament including Steven Miles, Grace Grace, Mick de Brenni, and Nikki Boyd, and those with law backgrounds include Shannon Fentiman, Cameron Dick, Meaghan Scanlon and Peter Russo.

Leanne Enoch and Tom Smith have been teachers.

LNP State MP

A Queensland LNP MP generally leans economically conservative, pro-business, tough on crime, and supportive of regional interests. While urban MPs live more business focused and polished lifestyles, regional MPs tend to have a practical, community-driven approach.

Katter’s Australian Party (KAP) State MP

They’re not career politicians — they’re blokes (and sometimes tough-as-nails women) who worked hard before politics. They drink Bundy Rum, XXXX, or strong coffee, and they fight for farmers, miners, and small business owners.

ChatGPT has taken creative licence of its version of a KAP MP, which had been given specific instruction to merge the three serving parliamentarians Robbie Katter, Shane Knuth and Nick Dametto. It refused to get rid of the moustache despite instruction to do so.

Home life and personal interests:

- Their home is practical, not flashy — likely a rural property or a modest house in town with plenty of space for utes, dogs, and possibly a few cattle.

- They drive a big 4WD Ute – Either a Toyota LandCruiser, Nissan Patrol, or a Ford Ranger — something tough enough for the bush. They never drive a Tesla and if they see one, they’ll probably make a joke about “city people who don’t get real Australia”.

- They relax by fishing, hunting, campdrafting and rodeos, watching the footy, and country music and bush poetry.

Summary:

There are three KAP MPs, all male and with an average age of 49 years and three months.

Shane Knuth was a railway welder and owner of a small pastoral property, Nick Dametto worked in mining and construction, while party leader Robbie Katter was a property valuer and mine worker.

Their former Thuringowa candidate Reuben Richardson did drive a Tesla.

Greens State MPs

Queensland Greens MPs advocate for climate action, renters’ rights, public housing, and publicly owned renewable energy while pushing for electoral reform and corporate regulation. Many balance political work with family life, prioritising work-life balance, public education, and universal healthcare.

1. Housing and renters’ rights: Stronger protection for tenants, including rent caps and no-grounds eviction bans, public investment in 100,000 public homes over 10 years.

2. Publicly owned renewable energy

3. Cost of living relief such as grocery price caps on 30 essential items, free public transport, push for higher wages

4. Increasing funding for public hospitals and bulk billing GPs, expanded mental health services

5. Political and democratic reforms such as banning corporate donations and expanding voting rights to 16 and 17-year-olds

Typical former professions:

1. Environmental and public interest law: Michael Berkman was an environmental lawyer working on cases against Adani’s coal mine

2. Community organisers and activists

3. Urban planning and transport policy

Home life and personal interests:

- Many Greens MPs balance a demanding public role with a strong commitment to family life. For instance, Mr Berkman lives in Toowong with his wife and children. This reflects a broader tendency among Greens members to maintain a grounded, family-centred lifestyle that complements their public service.

- Holidays are typically nature-based vacations such as spending time in national parks, nature reserves, rural eco-lodges, while activities might include hiking, cycling or camping.

- Queensland Greens MPs often choose vehicles that reflect their commitment to environmental sustainability. For instance, former Greens MP Amy MacMahon drove a Toyota Prius, a well-known hybrid vehicle.

Summary:

With only Michael Berkman currently serving in the Queensland parliament it does seem redundant for ChatGPT to list various former careers and details of the ‘typical party MP’.

It may be reliant on data of former MPs Amy MacMahon and Ronan Lee, as well as Greens candidates in general.

One Nation MPs

A One Nation MP in Queensland parliament leads a public, conservative lifestyle, advocating for nationalism, free speech, and rural interests. Their values emphasise sovereignty, personal responsibility, and opposition to political correctness. Family life reflects traditional ideals, balancing politics with a close-knit, regional or suburban home life.

ChatGPT struggled with defining a typical One Nation candidate, but claimed it was inspired by Pauline Hanson’s imagery such as confident demeanour, short hair, and bold outfit choices. It sought to give a ‘general representation’ of the party rather than to copy Ms Hanson.

2. Opposition to Political Correctness and Identity Politics

3. Prioritising water security, farmers’ rights, and infrastructure development for rural Queensland

Home life and personal interests:

- They typically live in regional or outer suburban areas, such as Ipswich, the Sunshine Coast hinterland, Toowoomba, Townsville, or rural farming communities, where their voter base is strongest. Their home is likely to be a spacious house on a large block or acreage, possibly with a shed, work vehicles, and a strong connection to outdoor living.

- Would likely drive a rugged, practical vehicle often suited for both city and rural environments, with popular choices including Toyota LandCruiser, Ford Ranger, and Holden Colorado.

- Spouses often play supportive roles within the family and community, with common professions including stay-at-home-parent, small business owner or manager, teacher or healthcare worker, or trade or admin roles.

- Holidays are often spent with family, focused on outdoor activities, and typically avoid destinations that are seen as too cosmopolitan or disconnected from their regional values.

Summary:

There are no One Nation MPs serving in the Queensland parliament, and ChatGPT struggled to construct accurate images of a typical candidate.

Asked what inspired its imaginary, ChatGPT said it leaned on Senator Pauline Hanson’s personal qualities such as confident demeanour, without copying her image.
