A Mongols bikie associate has died after being shot by police on the Gold Coast during a carjacking incident in which he shot at them.

Travis Patrick Brown was shot and killed on Brisbane Rd at Arundel by an officer after a wild crime spree.

Brown confronted officers armed with a gun on Calvary Ct at Labrador about 8.15am and fled on foot before he carjacked an elderly woman in a nearby street.

He drove the vehicle into her and she was taken to hospital from nearby Clovelly Pl at Labrador with leg injuries.

Police used road spikes to stop Brown during the incident in which he shot at them.

Brown attempted to steal another car on Brisbane Rd, putting the firearm up to the head of another driver of a vehicle.

A girl was also injured from glass fragments after a windscreen in a vehicle was shot.

Brown was shot about 9.30am after a second confrontation with police who were trying to stop the other car jacking.

Officers immediately gave first-aid and paramedics were called.

The Courier-Mail understands the Special Emergency Response Team had been looking for Brown for a number of days, seeking him on a return to prison warrant.

He had also rammed a police car in Helensvale last month.

His history included drugs and firearm offences, dangerous operation of a vehicle and assaulting police.

Queensland Police Union president Shane Prior said officers were confronted by a “violent and aggressive man” who was armed and refused attempts to surrender.

“Not only did this man steal an elderly lady’s car, he used that same car to run her down,” he said on Thursday.

“Police were shot at but despite this they continued to pursue this individual because they feared for the public at large, because this man was a very dangerous individual.

“Ultimately what occurred is police were confronted with a situation where this male was attempting to carjack a vehicle and his gun was placed at the head of the driver of that vehicle and police acted decisively.”

Mr Prior said he was confident that any inquiry conducted would determine that the actions of police were “authorised, justified and lawful”.

He said a senior constable who was a frontline veteran “protected the community today” and should be given a bravery citation.
