Counter-terrorism police have been alerted after anti-Semitic and racist posters were put up at a busy intersection in inner Brisbane.

The police counter-terrorism squad has been contacted after anti-Semitic and racist posters were put up on a busy intersection in Milton in inner-Brisbane on Friday.

A council spokeswoman said the posters, spotted at the intersection of Baroona, Milton and Park roads, were removed on the same day residents reported them.

They read: “Anzacs died for a white Australia, Jews, ch--ks, Arabs and blacks f … off.”

Acting Mayor Fiona Cunningham condemned the posters during Tuesday’s weekly council meeting, saying the incident came soon after commemorations of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp.

“We must call it (racism and anti-Semitism) out and stomp it out when we see it,” she said.

“We are incredibly lucky to live in such a harmonious community, which our war heroes fought for and died to protect.

“It’s repulsive that individuals are exploiting our Anzacs to perpetuate evil and division in our community.’’

Council was contacted 93 times regarding racist and antisemitic matters between October, 2023 and February 9 this year, with the highest number in West End, Toowong and South Brisbane.

Ms Cunningham welcomed last week’s open letter of support to the Brisbane Jewish community from inter-faith church groups.

The discovery of the posters came soon after vile anti-Semitic material was left in letterboxes in Moorooka and Annerley.

Last year similar material was left in letterboxes in Paddington.
